Entertainment and hospitality has always been a priority in Key Biscayne lifestyle.
The Key Biscayne Hotel Villas & Golf Club was opened early 1951, built by the Mackle brother’s with a Golf Course designed by architect Mark Mahannah. It was the first resort on the island, its initial 9 hole Golf Club became the attraction to many.
During the 1960s and 70s, it was an attraction for winter birds running away from cold weather, it was later named the ‘Winter White House’ after President Richard Nixon. As he owned several properties on KB, he used the Key Biscayne Hotel Villas & Golf Club as his favorite place for entertainment, political meetings and golf weekends. The island got domestic and international attention as he would meet with President Kennedy or Henry Kissinger and later on as the Watergate Scandal hit the nation KB became his hideaway or place were he would set his confidential meetings.
Mid 1970s as the Rickenbacker bridge was built the hotel became an attraction for miami residents that would cross the bridge for a day at the beach resort or play golf
Later on 1987, the Key Biscayne Villas & Golf closed. Soon enough developer John Hinson, in a partnership with George Soros and John Temple went into a hostile take over until they finally acquired the 52 acres to then develop what we now know as The Ocean Club one of the finest residential resort condo on the island.
